Defunk
Calgary-based Defunk builds bass music out of funk, soul and blues samples, and plays keys live over his sets rather than only mixing them. Releases have landed on Monstercat and Circus Records, and since around 2018 the funk has shared space with darker material. Glitch hop, dubstep and drum and bass all turn up in his recorded sets. Shambhala is the festival most tied to his name.
